Canada Plum

Prunus nigraa

A large shrub or small tree. New bark is dark. Leaves have blunt teeth and reddish stems. Often has hollow fungal growths instead of fruit. Leaves (see lower left image), turn from green to reddish in mid August. Birds are quickly attracted to the red , orange or yellow, 2 cm long fruit that is edible after first frost.
