Broad Beech Fern

Phegopteris hexagonoptera

Typical characteristics are the compact triangular frond, the wings connecting all the parts of the frond, the stem that is naked except at the base and the lower leaflets that are widest at the middle. However the lower leaflets that project askew forward and down and the narrower hairy leaflets are characteristics of P. connectilis, the Long Beech Fern. This would indicate a possible hybrid of the two.
