Monotropa hypopithys

Grows under conifers and gets its food from a fungus growing on tree roots as well as from rotting wood (saprophytic). Bottom right is detail of scale-like leaves on stem. Has two or more flowers per stem. Coloured yellow to reddish. See related Indian Pipe whijch hasa single flower per stem and is a translucent white.
