Bellwort, Perfoliate

Uvularia perfoliata

This plant would seem to have two lives. Compare the bottom left image with the full flowered one above it. As soon as the blooming is finished the drooping leaves fill out and the plant energy switches to developing the seed pod as the leaves enlarge and turn to catch more sun under a developing forest canopy. A similar relative, the Large Flowered Bellwort has leaves that merely clasp the flower stem rather surrounding it.
