Pale Swallow-wortCynanchum rossicum
Also called the "Dog Strangling Vine" this is an invasive twining vine that thrives along the shores of the Great Lakes. Flower colour ranges from dull pink to dark purple. Its seeds are like the Milkweeds and the empty shells persist through winter. A similar vine, Black Swallowwort (Cynanchum nigrum) has smaller purple-black star shaped flowers with hairy petals. I have not found it in PEC as of 2008.
